Winners of the 2017 Webby Awards have today been announced, with Dutch creative production powerhouse MediaMonks helping bring home eight awards across five projects, the highest number of Webby Awards won by MediaMonks to date. Hailed by The New York Time’s as the “Internet’s highest honour”, the Webby Awards is one of the longest-running awards programmes honouring digital culture.
MediaMonks' Webby wins include both the Webby Award & People’s Choice for the projects Greenpeace: A Journey to the Arctic in the category of Online Film & Video, VR: Cinematic or Pre-Rendered (Branded); Helping Heart in the category of Mobile Sites & Apps,Technical Achievement; and Uber: Where To? In the category of Advertising & Media, Products & Services.
The creative production powerhouse was also awarded the People’s Voice Award for Bullying in Virtual Reality in the category of Advertising & Media, Best Cause Related Campaign, and the Webby Award for Samsung: DISCOVR the World in the category of Online Film & Video, Travel & Adventure.
“We're a huge Webby fan as it’s such a celebration of web and internet culture. In 5 words: Winning is always an honour,” said Wesley ter Haar, MediaMonks Co-Founder.
The Webby Awards is not only the one of the longest running awards shows, it is also one of the most competitive awards programme. Over 13,000 entries from 70 countries were received this year alone and in the end, only 9% of entries reach nominations.
2017 marks the 21st anniversary of the awards show. Winners will be celebrated at a star-studded ceremony held at Cipriani Wall Street on Monday, May 15.
