Senior account executive at McCann New York on embracing our ‘flaws and quirks’, the West Village in late autumn, and working on Mastercard's 'True Name' campaign
Welcome to 'McCanners of New York', a series that delves into the lives of the talent behind McCann New York's greatest work. Featuring employees across departments and various roles, this series is an exploration of their personal stories, side-hustles, passions and the projects they cherish.

'McCanners of New York' offers a glimpse into the lives of these talented advertisers, showcasing both their professional and personal journeys.

In this edition, we’re getting to know Jenny Case, senior account executive at McCann New York.

Q> Why did you decide to pursue a career in advertising?

Jenny> I went to school to be an actress. I actually attended a fairly rigorous musical theatre program in college and moved to New York after graduating to hop on the audition train. I was making smoothies at a Peloton studio and waiting tables at a cocktail bar when I started watching Mad Men (I know, it’s so cliché). I think I was drawn to an industry that was so deeply rooted in human connection and emotion. I packed up my tap shoes and went to grad school, and here I am.

Q> Outside of work, do you have any personal interests or hobbies that you're particularly passionate about? Has this hobby/passion influenced your work in advertising at all?

Jenny> This will shock you, but I love going to Broadway shows. I like to run. I’m a licensed mixologist. I’m also a huge pop culture enthusiast. And yes, knowing a lot about the Real Housewives and Taylor Swift is a great ice breaker with clients.

Q> Can you share a project or campaign you've worked on that you're particularly proud of?

Jenny> I was an intern at McCann in 2019 and had the opportunity to work on True Name and Acceptance Street with the Mastercard team. The team engraved the chosen names of people attending World Pride onto True Name cards - I still have a few of the discarded tester cards in my memory box. I just remember feeling part of something so much bigger than myself.

Q> What advice would you give to someone aspiring to pursue a career in advertising, especially at a large agency like McCann?

Jenny> Be yourself. Your flaws and your quirks are actually your greatest assets, and they make work more fun.

Q> What is your favourite area in NYC and why?

Jenny> Probably the West Village. But specifically, the West Village in late fall, after two cocktails, when you’re walking to dinner in a great jacket and the Halloween decorations are still up.

Q> If you could recommend one hidden gem in NYC that not many people know about, what would it be?

Jenny> The Charleston in Williamsburg - free personal pan pizza with every drink.
