London awarded Most Creative Agency, Bristol recognised for its hard-hitting charity campaigns

McCann Worldgroup Sweeps 2019 Creative Circle with 20 Awards
McCann London and McCann Bristol, part of McCann Worldgroup in the UK, scored significant wins together achieving a combined total of 20 accolades at the 2019 Creative Circle Awards, representing outstanding work by the UK’s creative industry. The recognition also included McCann London honoured as Most Creative Agency of the Year in a joint-win. Additionally, McCann Bristol won nine of the ten awards it was nominated for in its first national campaign with domestic violence charity, Refuge.

The Creative Circle is the longest running advertising awards body in the UK, celebrating creative excellence and judged by the UK creative community. Among the work celebrated at this year’s awards, McCann London and McCann Bristol’s award-winning campaigns addressed the frontline, yet often overlooked, issues affecting people’s everyday lives in the UK from homophobia, domestic abuse, mental health and exposure to air pollution.

McCann London’s Most Creative Agency of the Year recognition included 10 awards in total, comprising 4 Gold, 5 Silver, 1 Bronze Creative Circle Awards. The agency’s three-winning campaigns were: 'Toxic Toby' for BreezoMeter, 'Gaydr' for the Peter Tatchell Foundation, and 'Football: Decoded' for Microsoft. As the second-highest nominated agency at the Awards, McCann Bristol secured 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze for its reversible poem campaign for Refuge and its work with mental health counselling charity, Changes Bristol.

Rob Doubal and Laurence Thomson, chief creative officers at McCann UK and co-presidents of McCann London, said: “Our recent breadth of wins is testament to our strength as McCann Worldgroup in the UK, where our individual agencies in Bristol, Birmingham and London cleaned up at the recent One Show and Creative Circle awards. Our ethos to constantly push boundaries and create award-winning work that helps brands play a meaningful role in people’s lives is what we rely on to deliver our promise to our wide range of clients for creative commercial effectiveness. Proud, humbled and excited for what lies ahead in 2019.”

Jon Elsom, group executive creative director, McCann Central, said: “To receive so many accolades is a huge honour. Especially as this is the only awards scheme run by and for creatives – our peers. We earned the second highest number of nominations, placing us alongside the best of the best. To then receive 10 wins is incredible and builds on the success of our previous international award wins”.

Vince McSweeney, chief creative officer McCann Central added: “To receive recognition in this way is of course a fantastic outcome, but even more heartening, is the ongoing awareness of such an important issue.”

The Creative Circle Awards follows a repeat stellar performance at the prestigious 2019 The One Show Awards with McCann London awarded 7 Pencils 8 Merits including Best in Discipline (Creative Data) with Craft London for “Football Decoded” for Microsoft Xbox. McCann Bristol took home a Silver One Show Pencil for its work with Refuge. McCann London also picked up 8 awards at this year’s NY Festivals Advertising Awards, an award show that focuses on a standard of excellence in which quality and passion matter.
