New research from Reed has revealed that salaries in the marketing and sales sector continue to show signs of resilience due to the stable year-on-year salary increase. Over the past year, the sector has seen an average of 3.4% increase in salaries throughout the industry. In comparison, the sector saw an increase of 3.5% in 2022.
From analysis of six million jobs posted on Reed.co.uk over the last three years, as part of Reed’s suite of annual salary guides, the data also reveals how the marketing and sales sector is performing against other industries. The hospitality sector has seen the biggest pay increase in the past year (7.3%) and has bounced back from its previous year’s salary decrease. The IT and cyber security sector has seen the least growth out of all the sectors in 2023, with the average salary increase standing at 2.4%.
Bianca Halliburton, marketing recruitment expert at Reed, commented, “As businesses strive for innovative approaches to capture audience attention, the labour market within this sector reflects a demand for versatile and forward-thinking professionals.”
“In 2024, the marketing and sales job market will be characterised by a quest for adaptable professionals who can adjust to rapidly changing industry landscapes. Employers seek individuals with a diverse skill set that goes beyond traditional roles, encompassing digital marketing, data analytics and creative problem solving. This shift is driven by the increasing integration of technology and data-driven strategies.”
“To attract the best candidates, businesses need to cultivate a dynamic work environment, prioritise diversity and invest in a robust talent acquisition strategy. Together, these efforts will not only shape successful careers, but they will also contribute to the innovative and impactful future of the marketing and sales industry.”
Reed’s marketing and sales salary guide also gives insight into the regions that are most competitive within the sector. Areas such as the South West (8%) and the West Midlands (7.1%) have seen the biggest increase in wages for marketing and sales roles, with Northern Ireland showing the weakest growth, with a salary decrease (-4.2%).
Reed has produced a suite of 16 sector-specific salary guides, which include an in-depth analysis of a survey with 5,000 UK workers, assessing their current and preferred salaries and benefits, their organisation’s performance and priorities, how they rated their job security and the future of their sector, and the key recruitment and skills trends they’re witnessing.
