Manners McDade's Roger Goula has provided the score for the new BBC docudrama The Left Behind.
Directed by Joseph Bullman (Killed by My Debt, The Enemy Within), The Left Behind is produced by the Bafta-winning team behind Killed By My Debt. The docudrama tells the story of a young Welsh man with limited prospects, who is drawn into committing an Islamophobic hate crime.
The docudrama is based on the research of Professor Hilary Pilkington (from her time with the English Defence League) which states that in 2018 there was a 36% increase in the number of far-right extremists, referred to the UK government’s counter-terrorism programme, Prevent. Joseph also believes that lead character, Gethin (Sion Daniel Young), is a victim of a broken system in the UK and demonstrates the high levels of insecurity within these people’s lives.
Roger Goula is a London-based composer with a background in classical and jazz guitar and a successful career in composing for film and television drama and documentary. Most recently, he scored ITV/Netflix drama The Frankenstein Chronicles and BBC docudrama Mother's Day. His feature films include thriller Tiger House and critically acclaimed documentary feature Next Goal Wins.
