In August, 1947, India was violently partitioned into two independent nation states: Hindu-majority India and Muslim-majority Pakistan and communities that had coexisted for almost a millennium attacked each other in a terrifying outbreak of sectarian violence.
In ‘My Family, Partition and Me: India 1947’, Anita Rani examines the stories of survivors, children and grandchildren of four families who lived in India at the time of Partition. They travel for the first time to the homes in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh that their relatives fled in terror, meeting long-lost family and friends of other religions who shielded their families at huge personal risk.
