After years spent editing projects for a long list of top agencies and directors, editor Lucas Spaulding of Whitehouse Post has written and directed a short film of his own. Sequestered stars Jon Huertas and Seamus Dever from the ABC hit show Castle and will premier at this year’s Tribeca International Film Festival.
Shot last summer on the mean streets of downtown Los Angeles, Sequestered tells the nine minute tale of two would be bank robbers who run into trouble when each takes exception to the other’s mask.
Ace DP Kristian Kachikis lensed the film with Rubin Postaer producer Joshua Herbstman overseeing production. Anna Aguilar served as production manager, Justin Bondy assistant director with veteran sound man Scott Harber recording every curse, punch and gunshot. Spaulding cut the film with Christopher Noellert of Carbon VFX doing all the grade, online and effects. Rounding out the crew, Damian Wagner of Kickstand crafted the sound design, music and hard hitting mix.
“Over the years, I’ve been lucky to work with some of the top talent in the commercial world,” explained Spaulding. “Heading into my forties, I felt the time was right to take a risk and try to make something of my own. I’m as proud of the film as I am grateful to all the talented individuals who gave their time and effort to turn my vision into reality. We all had a lot of fun making the film and I think you can feel it on the screen. Even my sixteen year old son, Pablo got into the action. Best P.A. ever! The forty magical minutes it took us to drive the battered getaway car from our house to downtown Los Angeles will forever be seared in my memory.”
Other people that Spaulding wishes to thank include Kevin Fry, James Ellison III, Marcus and Emma Nelson, Anne Greene, Brady Mcelroy, Brad Hazen, John Pingry and Mike Gratzmiller with a special shout out to Cathy Pierce at Panavision.
Finally, Sequestered could never have been realized without the gracious and unwavering support of Whitehouse Post and Carbon VFX.
“I couldn’t be happier with the process and the end result,” states Spaulding. “I just hope that everyone who sees it feels the same way. Come this April at Tribeca, I guess we’ll find out.”
In addition to continuing with his commercial editorial work, Spaulding has written another short, Dead Cat slated for production this summer and is also working on a feature based on the Sequestered characters that he hopes to begin shopping around in the coming months.
