The Skittles brand is anchored in the idea of ‘reality with a twist’ and entertaining their millions of fans with the unexpected. With this in mind, BBDO Toronto thought, what’s more realistic and unexpected than doing a Skittles documentary? But what about the twist?
BBDO were inspired when a beautiful rainbow suddenly appeared across the sky. That's when they thought, wouldn't it be funny if a guy was actually struck by a rainbow and turned entirely into Skittle? Voila, the twist.
From there it became about fleshing out the backstory, developing the structure, story arc and exploring the world of characters. Then there was the small task of turning a man made of flesh into a man made of Skittles.
