Lilian Leong Appointed MD of Mediabrands' HK

Chris Skinner to be regional MD of UM MENA.

 

 

IPG Mediabrands, the media innovation unit of Interpublic Group (NYSE: IPG), has appointed communications veteran Lilian Leong to the Managing Director’s position in Hong Kong. In this role, Leong will oversee UM and Initiative’s key businesses and drive the agency's strong growth momentum that was steered by Chris Skinner, who is relocating to Dubai as the Regional Managing Director of UM MENA. Leong will report to Prashant Kumar, President of IPG Mediabrands, World Markets Asia.  

 

Over the past six years, as the Managing Director of Mediabrands Hong Kong, Skinner built a fine client portfolio that included local, regional and global brands from diverse sectors, spearheaded an integrated approach by connecting consumers and brands through innovative digital solutions and won major international awards thus putting the agency on the global map.

 

Kumar stated: “Chris has built our Hong Kong office into one of the finest operations in the region, and leaves behind an excellent line-up of leaders. We wish him our absolute best in the new role. We in Asia community will surely miss him." 

 

Leong comes aboard Mediabrands after spending nine years with Leo Burnett Hong Kong; formerly as the General Manager and since 2009 as its Managing Director. 

 

With over 18 years of work experience, she has spent her entire career developing agency capabilities such as digital, shopper marketing, direct marketing, event, PR and promotions; managing day-to-day business and staff operations.

 

Aside from winning a number of key clients including the most coveted Abbott milk formula this year, Leong was best known for setting up a digital and activation arm that led to a phenomenal revenue growth for the agency. Under her leadership, Leo Burnett won Agency of the Year, Gold Award for 2013 by Marketing Interactive, Hong Kong.

 

Prior to joining Leo Burnett, Leong worked with a string of creative agencies such as Bates, JWT and Ogilvy & Mather developing strategies for clients such as HSBC, IBM, San Miguel, Kodak, CSL and MTR.  

 

Welcoming Leong to the new role Kumar said: “Lilian brings with her deep and diverse experience in building great teams, and hybrid businesses. She fits perfectly into our DNA yet can augur new perspectives. We are really excited about what the next level for our HK operations could be."  

 

Responding to her appointment, Leong said: “Having spent my entire career working with creative disciplines, I am excited to now be at the cutting edge of communications business and look forward to applying my leadership and client management capabilities to take Mediabrands to newer heights."
