Humour and laughter might seem like an extravagance at times but we need our daily dose to remain balanced, writes PS DDB's Frank Palmer

What is fun? Fun is anything that is a source of enjoyment or pleasure. It can be derived from having a great job, doing exercise, going to a movie, playing sports or games -  even playing harmless practical jokes. Something that I do all the time. In fact, I make a daily habit of it. Believe it or not, having regular fun in your life is an important part of stress management. There are many health benefits of laughter that are well documented. Research has shown that laughter strengthens our immune system, reduces anxiety and even assists our heart and lungs to get a workout.

Regrettably, of late, when we read the paper or turn on the TV, we may be hard-pressed to find a reason to be joyful. Far too often, our lives and our moods are influenced by negative sources. As well, our work and family responsibilities make life seem like a never-ending list of un-fun like tasks. My recommendation is that you make having fun a necessity -  as important as drinking water. Humour and laughter might seem like an extravagance at times but we need our daily dose to remain balanced.
