Ladbrokes Lets You ‘Be the Boss’ in 3D Spot from Irresistible Studios

Irresistible Studios continues its three-year run with yet another action-packed film for Ladbrokes 5-A-Side. Directed by director-duo Octane and in collaboration with animation partners Onion Skin, the film consists of stunning 3D assets and high-end graphics, embedded in 3D stadiums full of cheering fans.

The 2022 version of the film journeys through a series of epic moments from the beautiful game; we see a powerful boot strike, a heroic last-ditch save, and a goal-line finale moment of triumph. Brought to life with dynamic movement, high-resolution textures, and particle FX, the 30-second spot is a supercharged version of the annual product ad.

Directors Octane say: “It was a pleasure working with the Ladbrokes team at Entain, who continually push the envelope for 5-A-Side animations every year. Furthermore, Onion Skin were meticulous in their approach - crafting a film rich with detail, dynamism, and spectacle. They absolutely bossed it. We look forward to collaborating again in the future.“ 

Cenk Koksal from Onion Skin on the practical approach of the film, says: “In the 3D sequence, the challenge was to achieve hyperrealism in super slow-motion and extreme close-up shots. We had to carve every 3D model with intense elaboration and high-resolution textures as we knew the audience would be able to see even the tiniest details. Our lighting artist then lit the scenes with physically accurate daylight and rigged the camera for believable real-life depth of field, using RedShift as a render engine also helped us a lot to save time without compromising the render quality. We combined everything in Fusion to make the final compositing, colour correction, and added some dust/particle FX."

The advert was produced on a cinematic canvas, the life-like scenes concluding with an aerial fly-by sequence, soaring seamlessly through various stadium environments. The animation work showcases the evolution and expansion of the 5-A-Side product and has been launched for TV broadcast and online platforms across the UK and Ireland.
