As the celluloid film renaissance powers on, the Kinsale Shark awards have been the first in the industry to re-recognise the incredible talent and craft that goes into its usage. In a homage to the new award, Cinelab London have pulled together a run down of all the winners shot on film at Kinsale 2019...
WINNERS:
1. Philips - Shouting Men
2 GOLD SHARKS: Best Use of Film & Best Direction
In the inaugural year of the Best Use of Film award, Philips
‘Shouting Men’ campaign directed by Meeto from Missing Link films and created
by Ogilvy London picked up the coveted Gold Shark for the category as well as
an additional Gold for Best Direction.
Commenting on the win and his decision to use film on the campaign, Meeto says: “To me shooting this on film in 4:3 format gave the idea a sense of authenticity, and really helped to create something unique. Shooting on film added to the whole Scandinavian organic feel that I think these men represent. Film emphasizes facial repression - skin tones etc.. And this would just really be a cool, organic approach that would add a magic cinematic feel to it. Thanks to my amazing DP Jonathan Grevsen, and to my producer and partner in crime Ben Link who had my back and had total belief in using film.”
Cinelab London CEO, Adrian Bull adds: "It is fantastic news for filmmakers that the Sharks have introduced a new category specifically for commercials shot on film. The craft is so different to digital and doing it well is not easy. This award profiles outstanding work and honours using film as their creative medium of choice. We are honestly very proud to have been involved in these productions and are so excited to see ever more interesting films coming through our doors on a daily basis."
