The four-week, paid internship will provide educational opportunities for those interested in pursuing a career in the creative industries

Karmarama, part of Accenture Interactive, has announced that it will be rolling out its second virtual internship scheme, following the success of last year’s Kadets programme. The four-week, paid internship will provide educational opportunities for those interested in pursuing a career in the creative industries, and will gain insight into the world of advertising, creative, PR & social media and digital. Successful applications will also experience client management and pitch work as well as mentoring and personal development training.

Karma Kadets was created to bring more diverse talent to the advertising industry by removing the barriers and limitations often posed by London-based agencies. The virtual internship’s accessible nature opens up the opportunity for those who cannot, or do not want to live in London and refrains from the industry’s London-centric recruitment approach. The programme will not be limited to graduates and will also not follow a CV submission process, attracting people who have followed a variety of educational paths.

Following a national shift in ways of working, these virtual experiences will continue to broaden the career options for those outside of the London and will help break down socio-economic barriers often associated with an internship in the city, such as short term London renting, travel costs or having to couch surf.

In its first virtual launch last year, the internship received 148 applicants for six places, two recruits have since converted their Karma Kadet experiences into new roles in the advertising industry. The second virtual internship will see an even wider range of opportunities following the feedback of last year’s recruits and a larger number of places.

Ben Bilboul, chief executive officer at Karmarama, part of Accenture Interactive said “As a London based agency it's really important we recognise some of the barriers to entry when it comes to joining our industry, and take a more active approach to improving diversity. Our social & influencer lead, Katie Hunter successfully led the launch of the industry’s first virtual internship scheme for Karmarama in 2020 that saw recruits join from areas across the whole country who we might not have had the opportunity to work with in the programme’s physical format.

This month, we will now be rolling out our second virtual internship, opening another round of opportunities for people across the country, in addition to attracting talent who may not have previously applied due to the accessibility barriers they may have come up against.”

Applications for the virtual Kadets programme are now live and run for four weeks, providing a mix of educational sessions and insights into the industry – all through the flexibility of a Macbook provided by Karmarama for the course of the programme.
