 KakaoTalk Appoints Havas Media Indonesia

Havas Media Indonesia has announced its appointment as the media agency of record by KakaoTalk, the popular messaging and VoIP app developed by Seoul-based Kakao Corp.

Launched in 2010, KakaoTalk currently boasts of 89 million users globally and is vying to be a leader in the mobile messaging space.

Havas Media Indonesia will handle the offline media planning and buying for the app. The scope of work currently does not extend to digital.  

Tizzy Zoelfikar, Business Director at Havas Media Indonesia, who led the pitch said: “Indonesia is one of the largest mobile markets in the region and that is what makes this category especially interesting. The competition in this space is heating up with players like Line and WeChat making an entry in the country. KakaoTalk has had a very promising start and we are delighted to be there partners in this journey going forward.”

Apart from home market South Korea, KakaoTalk is targeting Indonesia, Vietnam and Japan for its growth and expansion. In recent months, KakaoTalk has witnessed a growth of 288 percent in Indonesia.
