Macy’s customers may very well faint from excitement over the retailer’s new Black Friday commercial featuring superstar Justin Bieber. The TV spot’s humorous storyline shows what happens when people come in contact with Bieber’s well-known wink. The commercial, which broke on television on Tuesday 20 November, reminds customers to shop at Macy’s Black Friday sale, which starts at 12 a.m. on Friday 23 November (midnight Thanksgiving night), for the best deals on gifts for everyone on their Christmas list.
“Justin Bieber is one of Macy’s superstar talents with a great sense of humour, and was a hit in last year’s Black Friday commercial,” said Martine Reardon, Macy’s chief marketing officer. “We’re excited to share another fun look at fans’ extreme reactions to seeing Justin in store as he helps get the message out to shop early at Macy’s for great deals on the most desirable gifts this holiday season.”
Reinforcing the message that ‘America’s Department Store’ is Bieber’s favourite spot to shop on Black Friday, Macy’s ‘Wink, Nod, Smile’ continues the retailer’s fall sitcom-themed TV concept, starring new Macy’s Herald Square store manager Harold (Matt Oberg) and visual merchandiser Carolina (Chloe Wepper), as they remind Bieber what happened on Black Friday last year. While in the store, Bieber offered his classic ‘wink’ to unsuspecting fans who swooned in the megastar’s presence. In this year’s spot, Harold and Carolina fall prey to the effects of an accidental ‘wink’ when Bieber gets something in his eye.
The commercial also ties into an in-store treat for customers who purchase a large spray bottle of Justin Bieber’s fragrance ‘Girlfriend’, who will receive a quilted heart bag, while supplies last. Plus, for every Justin Bieber fragrance purchase on Black Friday, Macy’s will donate $2 to Make-A-Wish®, up to $100,000.
