On Saturday afternoon Just Eat Takeaway.com, a leading global online food delivery marketplace, along with Dark Horses delighted Parisians and football fans alike by erecting an enormous doorbell, that surprised ticketless traveling fans with tickets to the big game that night, delivered by none other than Real Madrid and Brazil legend, Roberto Carlos.
Created to support Just Eat Takeaway.com’s sponsorship of the UEFA Champions League, fans and onlookers were encouraged to push a giant doorbell for the chance to win prizes. The catch was that the doorbell required the force of four people to successfully push it - so hopeful fans had to team up to give it a go. No one went away empty handed: on offer were a selection of Just Eat money off vouchers and UCL merchandise, but the main prize was two sets of four tickets to the UEFA Champions League final at Stade de France. Fans lucky enough to win the tickets got to see Liverpool and Real Madrid in action that very night.
The stunt unfolded over a period of four hours, where groups took it turns to press the massive doorbell which played a booming ding dong before a Just Eat Takeaway.com delivery driver appeared with the prizes for the runners-up. However, when two lucky groups of winners pushed the doorbell the UEFA Champions League anthem played, confetti rained down and the door opened to reveal footballing legend Roberto Carlos who stepped out to present them with the tickets.
The activation was captured by football-focused social channel 433. UK based YouTuber Calfreezy, a Liverpool fan himself, also captured the event as part of a video racing to Paris with fellow YouTubers Chip and Harry from the Sidemen.
Through the campaign Just Eat Takeaway.com further cemented their involvement with football which began during Euro 2020. Its sponsorship of the UEFA Champions League, and their broader deal covering all UEFA Club Competitions, has allowed Just Eat Takeaway.com to give back to the football community by rewarding lucky fans.
Marijn Luchtman the global head of sponsorship at Just Eat Takeaway.com, said: “Having the opportunity to do this scale of activation whilst being able to give back to the football community who have stuck by our side is truly amazing. We are really happy with the work Dark Horses has done and we are looking forward to working with them producing more exciting creative work in the future.”
Steve Howell ECD at Dark Horses, said: “One day, many, many years from now, there’s going to be a Liverpool fan, or a Real Madrid fan, sat with their grandkids watching highlights of this year’s Champions League final. That grandparent is going to proudly proclaim, “I was there!” Then their grandchildren are going to ask all about it and they’re going to have to explain that Just Eat Takeaway.com put a gigantic doorbell in the middle of Paris, they and their mates pressed it and the next thing they knew Roberto Carlos was handing them four tickets to the final. And knowing that that moment is going to happen, makes all the hard work worth it.”
