Jordan Clarke Crafts Cinematic Universe for Shawn Hook Single 'Bigger Than the Night'

Jordan Clarke, represented by Boldly in Canada, directed and animated the recently released music video for Shawn Hook’s hit single 'Bigger Than The Night.'

Inspired by the emotionally evocative lyrics and melodies of the song, Jordan crafted a visual narrative that not only complements the music but elevates it, creating an immersive experience that invites viewers to embark on a journey that is, indeed, bigger than the night. But most intriguingly, it incorporates a blend of live action motion capture with virtual reality through MetaHuman and Unreal Engine.

The storyline, featuring Shawn Hook’s avatar and two characters embarking on a subway journey, transcends a mere night-time adventure, touching upon themes of discovery, connection, and the boundless nature of imagination. Clarke's narrative direction reflects his deep understanding of storytelling, where each frame is meticulously crafted to contribute to the overarching narrative and thematic resonance of the music video.

Already an accomplished 3D artist, Jordan has recently added Unreal Engine to his skillset, and that was one of the myriad of tools he used to create the vibrant, imaginative universe explored here. As a one-man artist, this project is quite the technical feat, once again demonstrating Jordan’s remarkable ability to employ cutting-edge tools and techniques to create visuals that are entirely new. Harnessing the power of MetaHuman and Unreal Engine, with the support of Vancouver-based motion capture studio Animatrik Film Design, enabled him to construct several dynamic worlds where the story could unfold in physically impossible and yet visually stunning ways. 

Jordan Clarke’s portfolio radiates an organic, surreal, and tangible quality. This film is a strong addition to an already unique body of work. His talent and dedication have earned him multiple Vimeo Staff Picks, a win at the Shiny Awards, features in Director's Library, Shots.net, as well as nominations for the UKMVAs and the Berlin Music Video Awards & Commercial Awards. This month, Jordan will travel to Halifax, Nova Scotia to celebrate his nomination for Video of the Year at the JUNO Awards.
