Cheil UK is broadening its social capability and integrated credentials with the appointment of Jon Buckley as its first Head of Social.
Buckley, who joins from Mesh Marketing where he was digital director, will report into Cheil UK head of innovation Daniele Fiandaca. His remit is to formulate Cheil UK’s social strategy, ensuring that it sits at the core of all creative output.
Prior to working at Mesh Marketing, Buckley was Head of Digital at Archibald Ingall Stretton for six years. In this time, Buckley launched and then reintegrated the agency’s digital arm ‘dais’, overseeing all digital output across its full client portfolio which included BMW, Coppafeel, O2, Skoda and Sky Movies. His CV also includes stints at Boy meets Girl and The Reef.
Fiandaca said: “Social media represents a significant shift in power from brands and businesses to individuals. It plays a key role in all aspects of life from how we communicate with others, to how we express ourselves and how we shop. Cheil understands the importance of this and how social fits with our broader company strategy to be unavoidably integrated.
“The appointment of Jon represents Cheil UK’s commitment to having the expertise to develop campaigns and ideas that weave social throughout their DNA – not campaigns with social just bolted on as an afterthought. Jon brings a wealth of experience from working for some of the world’s biggest brands. He will be an integral part of Cheil as we continue bolster our integrated offer.”
Buckley added: "Joining Cheil UK is a fantastic opportunity to work with an incredibly talented team. I’m looking forward to helping Cheil embed social across all disciplines and to help drive forward an enviably integrated offer.”
Buckley’s appointment follows the promotion of Matt Pye to COO in August.
