The Scottish director has recently re-located back to his homeland after nine years in London. His youthful obsession with filmmaking resulted in an impressive Scottish BAFTA at the tender age of 16. This new work demonstrates why he continues to be much in demand.
Michael J Ferns on Babbel: “Babbel is a huge and international brand. The challenge here was to make something that worked, cinematically and narratively, for a lot of different TV markets (we ended up shooting this piece in Barcelona). A conundrum to which any director will attest, it’s tricky to give a short piece of film a real international sensibility whilst retaining a sense of unique character in the piece. We opted for a heightened but cinematic approach and I’m pleased with the results”.
Michael J Ferns on Simply Health: “These were really elegant short scripts and the client and agency were a dream to work with from start to finish. Sometimes the ambition of the ideas are pitched just right and I think that was the case here. I wanted to bring a real narrative sensibility to the execution. Subtle, comedic performances and a rich cinematic palette”
