Blinkink and Iron Maiden join forces on another epic music video for the iconic band’s new single ‘Stratego’. Directed by Gustaf Holtenäs, the film takes place in a Japanese inspired landscape with two rival armies heading to battle in an action-filled match of the ancient Japanese strategy game, Shiogi. Gustaf combines 2D and 3D elements to create a gripping cinematic to match the monumental tone of the song.
This is the second collaboration between Blinkink and Iron Maiden, with 'The Writing on the Wall' video directed by Nicos Livesey, being released last month to much acclaim. 'Stratego' sees a host of awesome characters slashing their way across a feudal Japanese inspired chess board triggering a blood-red eclipse across the land. This world features battling dragons, galloping steeds, and in typical Maiden fashion, a lot of skulls.
New director Gustaf Holtenas took the helm for an impressive Blinkink music video debut. Though young Gustaf's portfolio includes work with Black Midi, Kate NV, and Jenny Wilson; each demonstrating incredible attention to detail and vision to match.
‘Stratego’ serves as the second single from Iron Maiden’s highly anticipated 17th studio record, ‘Senjutsu’, the premiere exclusively featured on Adult Swim on Wednesday the 8th September.
