Reminiscent of the art house genre, the music video for Skydaddy and Tyler Cryde’s ‘Tear Gas’ was directed by Ballistic’s Jasper Cable-Alexander

Treelike humanoids navigate a toxic love in a new promo from musicians Skydaddy and Tyler Cryde, directed by Ballistic’s Jasper Cable-Alexander.

Launching today, the film presents an intimate vignette of the couple’s complex relationship, moments of carefree, quiet happiness grounded by a lingering despondency. Scenes shot by the pair themselves allow us to listen in to their candid conversations, a window into their surreal world.

Brought together by a chance encounter, Skydaddy, Tyler, and Jasper brewed the music video concept over a number of months. Jasper drew inspiration from such films as ‘In The Mood For Love’ and ‘Buffalo 66’, both depicting strange worlds exploring love in unique ways.

The lovers are played by Florence Pick and Harrison Charles, transformed by makeup and long prosthetic noses recalling wood grain and tree stumps. As frequent collaborators, the actors’ understanding of one another solidifies the intimacy felt through the film, and makes for improvised scenes that flow naturally with ease, placing the viewer in the role of a fly on the wall.

Director Jasper Cable-Alexander comments: “I love daydreaming, and I find my ideas often come from everyday moments and settings that I reimagine in my head. Both this and my recent promo for Terra Twin ‘Head Leaking’ have been influenced by the music and what my imagination takes from listening to them. I really want to explore comedy more and I feel like the latter sparked that tone initially.”
