Inaugural Ibiza Music Video Festival

Proves to be celebration of the craft of the music video

Inaugural Ibiza Music Video Festival

On October 11th, the inaugural Ibiza Music Video Festival took place in Ibiza.

Based out of the Garbi Hotel, the festival was devised to celebrate craft within the industry and inspire young talent. Covering the various aspects of producing films from pre-production, to production and post-production, the festival was split into three ‘Academy Sessions.’ Each session hosted by Rushes’ Thom Trigger and driven by some of the industry’s most talented individuals.

Each of the Panelists (see full list below) provided insight into their specific field and craft; showing examples of their work (sometimes exclusive music videos); delighting the delegates with their insightful and fascinating stories; offering tips and varied opinions on the ‘music video industry.’

In addition to the sessions, festival-goers were able to enjoy a Google Hangout with Ron Weisner – the legendary music producer who has worked with Michael Jackson, The Jacksons, Quincy Jones, Madonna, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder to name a few.

During the session, Weisner talked about his career and the invaluable lessons he learned working on programmes including the 25th anniversary of BET, The Soul Train: The Dance Years, Michael Jackson Tribute and most recently Chaka Khan’s Legends of Fame at the Apollo Theatre.

Beginning with pre-ceremony drinks next to the idyllic beach surroundings, the intimate Award Ceremony was hosted by the islands very own Radio Sonica Presenter Mitch Cark and DJ Daisy Heartbreaker. A chance to reward all the creative and innovative music video submissions, from both established names and aspiring filmmakers alike, the ceremony was a fitting end to the festival.

Rupert Bryan, managing director at MPH and one of the co-founders of the IMFV comments: “We were confident that the festival would prove a hit but the overall results surpassed our expectations. Not only did the festival deliver on educating and inspiring fresh new talent, but it allowed them to mingle with extraordinary talented individuals on a social and informal basis. From the discussions we had at the festival we’re already excited for next year’s festival – it’s shaping up to be bigger and better and we look forward to turning the ideas into a reality.”

Details of the Panelists and the sponsors follow. For testimonials and additional images from this year’s Festival please see attached document.

The IMVF Team caught up with everyone again this week (Wednesday 6th November) in London to go over their plans for next years festival.
