On Wednesday 17th Feb, IAPI hosted a refresher 'How to win an Effie' event to relaunch Effie Awards Ireland and the 2021 Programme. Due to the pandemic, IAPI chose to postpone its inaugural year from 2020.
Founded 50 years ago, Effie is a global symbol of achievement within the industry. Its mission is to lead, inspire and champion marketing effectiveness globally with winners being assigned to the Global Effie Index. This prestigious programme replaces ADFX and the inaugural awards in Ireland will take place this year.
Over 300 marketers and agency folk tuned in to the livestream broadcast to glean top tips and hints on how to arrest the attention of the jury when they’re reading the entries. From the entry process to selecting categories to crafting the entry, it was all covered.
The speakers have all had previous experience in judging Euro Effies and are also on the 2021 Effie Ireland jury. They were: Damian Devaney, senior partner with TBVGlobal, who is also chair of the Effie Ireland Jury; Nichola Mullen, fundraising director, Society of St. Vincent de Paul; Nicky Doran, brand and marketing strategy director, Davy; Neal Davies, CEO, BBDO, Dublin; Margaret Gilsenan, chief strategy officer and founder, Boys+Girls.
Charley Stoney, CEO, IAPI hosted the event alongside Katherine Ryan, Effie programme manager, IAPI, and event production was managed by Verve.
Shenda Loughnane, president IAPI and group MD, Dentsu Aegis, opened the relaunch by outlining what Effie Awards will bring to the Irish market: “The Effies are part of IAPI’s strategy to position Ireland on the global stage as a centre of commercial creativity and communications. I would encourage all of you to enter Effies and to showcase your incredible work over the past few years as these awards represent the pinnacle of achievement in our industry. Over 50 years old, Effie Awards celebrate brilliant creativity, strategic planning and media thinking and of course, have set the global benchmark for great advertising effectiveness.”
To demonstrate what good looks like, all the speakers chose some favourite case studies from previous Effie Award winners. All of them can be seen on the
recording of the event including the Freedom of the Press campaign from newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, the highly effective virtual billboard campaign from the Road Safety Authority in Paris and the Hallmark Cards campaign for Mother’s Day. All the case studies shown demonstrated the power of great creativity in driving extraordinary results.
The sponsors for Effie Awards Ireland will all contribute hugely to the success of the programme for 2021 beyond their cash support. Twitter by providing the venue for our judging days this Summer. An Post Commerce for producing the DM communications throughout the year. RTE Media Sales and Wide Eye Media for providing us with their media expertise and PR support. And Pluto for providing IAPI with their event management team for the combined live and virtual awards event next September.
