House of Moves Cinematic for Black Ops II

House of Moves (HOM), leading motion capture and animation service company for the film, television, gaming and commercial industries, once again teamed with Treyarch and Activision Publishing, Inc. to provide full performance capture for cinematics featured in Call of Duty®: Black Ops II. The latest instalment in the critically-acclaimed video game franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops II launched worldwide on November 13, 2012.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II gives players access to the near-future technology and advanced robotics of 2025, as they hunt insidious villain Raul Menendez, who has hijacked the U.S. military’s infrastructure to further his own agenda. The narrative spans multiple generations as players attempt to save the world from the brink of annihilation.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II features cutting edge, ultra-real and nuanced animations. House of Moves shot performance capture for many of the game’s cinematic sequences, outfitting performers with 52 body markers and 88 facial markers, while simultaneously recording audio. Filming took place on HOM’s 459-square foot motion capture sound stage equipped with 200 Vicon T160 cameras, and Vicon Blade software. In addition to human actors, the HOM team also completed complex performance capture of a live horse, bringing heightened realism to the game. You can see horses in action in the game’s reveal trailer below.

“We first teamed with Treyarch and Activision in 2010 on the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, which was an incredible project that saw unprecedented success,” said Jimmy Corvan, Business Development Manager at House of Moves. “We’re stoked to work on this franchise again and to partner with Treyarch and Activision to keep raising the bar on video game cinematics.”
