After a successful US launch, HOBBY joins forces with Luc Schurgers, a director whose love of engaging, fresh and fun visual storytelling, is matched by his passion for technology

It’s been a busy few years for HOBBY since breaking ground in the US in late 2019. Working with brands such as Progressive, Taco Bell and Naked Wines to name a few, HOBBY is now delighted to welcome onboard LA-based director and self-confessed technophile Luc Schurgers. Who will be presented by HOBBY in the US, as well as Scandinavia, Benelux and Asia.

Luc has long had admirers at HOBBY and already feels like one of the family. As HOBBY’s respected and talent-savvy Executive Producer in the US, Renee Krumweide reveals, “I know Luc from when he broke into the scene as Minivegas and have always admired his brand of comedy storytelling that stood out to me. He also brings a level of expertise and really compliments the HOBBY roster”.

Luc brings a wealth of brand experience having worked his viral magic for brands such as Axe, Old Spice, Ray Ban, Adidas, Levi’s, Nissan and Sony and grand agencies such as Wieden & Kennedy, M&C Saatchi, Argonaut, 180 Amsterdam, 72andSunny, Iris, Droga5, Publicis NY to name a few. However, it’s his style and passion for something different that stand out just as much as his resume.

Modern audiences demand something different; Luc’s work delivers because it’s smart but also fun. HOBBY shares that same philosophy for interactive, engaging visual storytelling with the power to transform an audience from spectators into part of the story itself. Few directors do it better, Luc’s very presence in LA is thanks to his well-crafted viral campaigns for many of the brands above; David Fincher (a guy who knows a thing or two about great talent) spotted him early and sponsored his move stateside.

Unsurprisingly Luc is a busy guy these days; he always has one foot in the world of tech so he took a little convincing, as he says: “I had given up on this whole directing thing ‘cause I’m quite busy with the computer these days, and I thought advertising wasn't a thing anymore. But then I spoke to Oskar Bård [HOBBY’s CEO & Founder] and he told me that advertising is still a thing actually. And he told me I could still make money making weird shit for them at HOBBY.  And I don't have a hobby so I figured let’s join these guys.”

It’s a formidable partnership and time for HOBBY and Luc Schurgers to get creative!
