Senior creative team at Wunderman Thompson, Lucy Harrison and Emma Gallagher, pick out five amazing projects that celebrate women and Yorkshire

The pressure of picking just five was a lot, but after watching the 'Barbie' movie this week, we thought it was only right to champion campaigns themed around women. These are ads where we’ve felt heard, represented and celebrated - oh, and there’s one from our beloved home of Yorkshire, too. Enjoy...

Aldi - 'Tea'

Agency: McCann UK
Production: The Love
Director: MJ Delaney

We love down to earth ads and brands, and we’ve always enjoyed Aldi’s likability and wit, so we thought it was only right to start with one of its most iconic early pieces of work. It’s such a simple formula, but portrays exactly what the brand is about in only 20 seconds, and best of all, it features a legendary woman with a love for something we can definitely relate to.

Bodyform Essity - '#WombStories'

Agency: AMV BBDO
Production: Chelsea Pictures
Director: Nisha Ganatra
Post: Framestore
Sound: 750mph

This is the campaign where they’ve really made all women feel seen and heard in relation to such an important topic that has been misrepresented for so many years. Beautifully made, beautifully engaging - just beautiful. We love the fact that female animators across the world contributed to helping create this piece, using mixed media really helps convey the chaos that women experience.

Cancer Council NSW - 'I Touch Myself'

Agency: JWT Sydney
Production: Collider
Director: Daniel Askill x Joel Pront x Lorin Askill

The love and detail put into this project gives us goosebumps. Not only did they promote the importance of breast examinations changing the meaning of the hit-single 'I Touch Myself' - but the ad also aired a year after the death of beloved rock diva Chrissy Amphlett who sang the anthem. We love how many Aussie stars came together to support their beloved friend. It’s even more chilling to rewatch again now after the iconic Olivia Newton-John passed away recently, so we thought it was fitting to resurface such a poignant campaign.

White Ribbon - 'Assault on the Dancefloor'

Agency: Wunderman Thompson London

Full disclosure: this one is from our agency, and it was created by our talented friends Zeb & Jasper. They brought to light a serious issue that we felt is commonly overlooked - the safety of women at gigs. We love how the visuals speak to festival goers, and how the powerful words make you think twice about what you see in the crowds.

Yorkshire Tea - 'Tina’s Leaving Do'

Agency: Lucky Generals
Production: Hungry Man London
Director: Dan Opal
Post: Rascal
Sound: King Lear

As Yorkshire natives, we can’t help but warm to this campaign, and thought it was a perfect one to end on. Yes, we might be biased, but Yorkshire has produced some of the best celebrities, and we love that Yorkshire Tea has taken advantage of this. You know they’ve got it right when you can’t wait for the next to air in the series. Patrick Stewart really makes this part his own, and the fact he described this ad as a ‘career highlight’ just says it all.
