Managing director creative at Serviceplan Cologne, Andy Wyeth, provides the belly laughs with a light-hearted and somewhat 'silly' selection

We’ve all seen our fair share of purpose ads with plenty of melancholic violin stock music trying to pull on our heart strings. The industry is full of them. Truth be told, I’ve even done a few myself. Sometimes I get the feeling that we as an industry have forgotten what we’re here for - to help our clients sell stuff - and comedy is a pretty safe bet to getting there. So, I’ve collected a few ads that I think hit the funny bone, and remind us that putting a smile on people’s faces is just as important as saving the world...

Mint Mobile - 'ChatGPT Writes a Mint Mobile Ad'

Production: Maximum Effort

ChatGPT is everywhere, but this is a very refreshing way to use it for advertising with one of the funniest people on the planet. Enjoy.

McDonald's - 'Raise Your Arches'

Agency: Leo Burnett London
Production: Moxie Pictures
Director: Edgar Wright
Post: Framestore
Sound: 750mph

Not a burger in sight, just an extremely funny way to celebrate the golden arches. You can’t un-see this one.

Twix - 'Camping'

Agency: adam&eveDDB Chicago
Production: Another Country x Arcade Edit x Company 3 x Dummy Films x The Mill London
Director: Harold Einstein

Brilliantly funny and notice the early product branding. This ad does everything perfectly.

Midea - '90 Minutes of Air Conditioning'

Agency: Pereira O’Dell New York
Production: Barrelhouse
Director: Brody Bernheisel

This isn’t laugh out loud funny, more of a surrealist humour, but to think hundreds of people enjoyed the hell out of a 90-minute air conditioner commercial during a New York heat wave...that's pretty funny and clever too.

Heinz - 'The Moment You Find Heinz'

Agency: Serviceplan Cologne
Production & Post: Stereo Films Berlin GmbH
Director: Markus Miarka
Sound: MassiveMusic Berlin GmbH

This is one of ours from Serviceplan, and I think we can all have a little chuckle with this relatable moment of abandoning an inferior product at the supermarket.
