Creative director at Windy Films, Tripp Clemens, takes a look at some stripped back work from recent times that have impressed him with their ever-powerful impact

I know forums for recognition in advertising are supposed to be more of a celebration of commercial work with big budgets and large crews, but so much of the work that inspires me is when people can make more with less. Big shout out here to four passion projects from some of the independent filmmakers I’ve had the pleasure to work with at Windy, all introduced to us through my partner Harvey Burrell, who has an incredible eye for talent. Then the fifth one is not by someone who I’ve met, but a piece of work that really moved me...

Short Film - 'Change'

Director: Abraham Felix

So much storytelling around the pandemic is and will be about trauma, death, suffering and loss. But in a strange way, while it was terrifying and constantly evolving, it was also kind of boring and monotonous. Change does a great job at remembering that very odd combination of panic and patience.

Converse x Moncler x Fragment - Brand Collaboration

Director: Dillon Buss

Dillon Buss has an incredible eye for detail. Every little thing about this is so carefully constructed. There’s nothing Dillon can’t do.

Short Film - 'Fraud'

Director: Zen Pace

I had the honour of working with Zen a few months ago, and was floored by their passion and talent. Fraud isn’t out yet, but highly recommend watching this trailer and following Zen’s work.

Documentary - 'Blue Room'

Director: Merete Mueller

This film is also not out yet, but definitely take a minute to watch the trailer. Merete’s work is beautifully still and unedited, even to the point that she acknowledges her own presence in the room. I’ve only seen the trailer but love Merete’s work and am eager to see the film next year.

Documentary - 'How I Had an Abortion at Home in Texas'

Production: NYT Opinion

Required viewing, not just for the subject matter, but also for the style and creativity.
