High Five: Fighting for a Cause

With a particular love for the power creativity has to transform things, associate creative director at Havas Chicago, Luiz Faria, picks out five impactful campaigns he wants to celebrate

I really believe that advertising has to mix with political issues, because we have the tool to challenge the status quo and make it part of society's conversations...

The Tampon Book - 'A Book against Tax Discrimination'

Agency: SCHOLZ & FRIENDS BERLIN
Production: Studio Dropped
Director: Cedric Soltani
Sound: Hastings Audio Network

This idea is an example of how to generate a debate and bring more people to help a cause. In a world where men dictated - and still dictate - rules that disfavour women, this project faced in an intelligent and courageous way, how the government is still lagging behind in real and everyday situations of women.

Change The Ref - 'The Lost Class'

Agency: Leo Burnett Chicago
Production: Hungry Man US
Director: Bryan Buckley

Can you imagine convincing a pro-gun American politician to enter a stage and speak to a group of people who, unfortunately, are no longer alive? Thanks to that, Change The Ref had the chance to put the US gun talk inside everyone's home. I hope that ideas like this can arise more and more for relevant issues that reach the political agenda of the national congress.

Nurishh Cream Cheese - 'Cream Cheese Credit'

Agency: Havas Chicago
Production: Method & Madness
Director: Ross Zuchowski x Casey Loc

This is a very interesting project that I've been involved with here at Havas Chicago. Did you know electric cars and solar panels get a tax credit from the US Government? But why does it end there? Why don't sustainable foods, like Nurishh, get a tax credit? Nurishh is a delicious dairy cream cheese spread that doesn’t come from cows, but uses real dairy protein. And Nurishh believes when you go green in your groceries, Uncle Sam should give you a financial credit for doing so. So, Nurishh did what the US government should have done...

Havaianas - 'Pride Research'

Agency: Media.Monks

Havaianas has always been a brand that embraced great causes. This is one that powerfully confronts the government of the last president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro. Jair banned LGBT+ people from speaking in researches made for the presidential race. After that, Havaianas invested heavily in research throughout Brazil in order to give LGBT+ people a voice. An idea that shows once again the power of fighting for human rights.

CELEM (European Women's Lobby) - 'Abortion Travel'

Agency: DDB Spain

And to finish my High Five, this idea from 2014, that even to this day, many countries are still debating. An idea that brings the power of choice to women, and that only they should have the chance to make their own choices. I strongly believe that these ideas need to exist to help fight back-minded governments and bring brands with financial power to fund these conversations.
