Directing duo The Coles, 20-something siblings Sophie and Walker, have signed with RSA’s Hey Wonderful.
They bring a distinctive style to the ascendant shop’s roster, which embodies refined colour palettes, compositions and styling, and contemporary storytelling that seamlessly integrates brand and story.
“We see a lot of young and new talent at Hey Wonderful, but we were particularly blown away by the sophistication and style of Sophie and Walker’s reel,” said Michael Di Girolamo, Founder and Managing Director, Hey Wonderful. “Their work has shades of Wes Anderson and Autumn de Wilde, directors I respect and admire.”
Hey Wonderful Executive Producer Sarah McMurray added, “The Coles bring a nimble process to their filmmaking which is resoundingly millennial. Michael and I are very excited for The Coles to put their unique stamp on our business.”
The Coles burst onto the directing scene in 2016 with a reel built on iconic brands. As a directing duo, their shared aesthetic and vision allow them to smoothly interchange responsibilities depending on the project. Their smart, sleek commercials for Fiat, Nike and Evian, although produced on spec, are indistinguishable from client commissioned ads.
“We liked the idea of a creative boutique with passionate leaders who are really invested in our careers,” Walker said. “When we first met Michael D a couple years ago at one of my art shows, we loved his infectious energy and immediately clicked.” Sophie added, “Once we were ready to pursue commercial representation, Michael was one of the first people we thought of. We were very impressed with his background in the business, especially how he has championed directing talent over the years. Then we met Sarah who has produced some of our favourite recent work. The fact that Hey Wonderful is part of the RSA family of companies sealed the deal. We know we’re in good hands with Michael and Sarah.”
Since its inception early last year, Hey Wonderful has produced an array of acclaimed commercials including the Peking-directed Doritos “No Choice Chips,” in partnership with Rock the Vote, and Walmart’s “Holiday Hypnosis,” ft. celebrity hypnotist Chris Jones; and PUR “The Water Bar” and American Express’ “Small Shop” campaign with Shaquille O’Neal, both from prolific director Sam Cadman.
