With the year drawing to an end amid covid uncertainty, adland has once again deployed maximum on-screen festive cheer. If you can’t bear to hear another cover of a classic Christmas tune, we’ve done our best to broaden the industry’s seasonal horizons with some engaging and expansive audio selections and compositions. JD Sport - #JDStreet
The festive season has landed and the bustling streets of Manchester are packed with people picking up Christmas essentials. There’s no telling who you could run into on the way to the shops - a neighbour, a mate, a superstar rapper, a TV presenter or even a Premiership footballer. That’s just what goes down on JD Sports’ #JDStreet. Working with Sheffield record producer/songwriter Toddla T (Bugsey, Aitch, Sean Paul, Idris Elba, Wiley) and the amazing vocal talent of Shaybo, our team crafted this bespoke track to give JD’s street focus a festive twist. The P&S team also worked closely with Cake Group to make sure the track could cross over and live on across social platforms including Tiktok, as well as releasing the track across streaming platforms to drive further engagement for the massive UK campaign. (The track just hit 20k streams.)
2. Barbour - Please Look After This Bear
For the first time ever, Peggy Fortnum’s original Paddington illustrations have been brought to life in animation. The result is this darling spot for Barbours seasonal campaign ‘Please Look After This Bear’. Paddington is up to his usual mischief once again, trying to show his thanks to Mr Brown by breathing life into his Barbour jacket with a fresh coat of wax, while making an unfortunate mess in the process. It was directed by award winning Stockholm animation studio, againstallodds, and produced by Passion Pictures. Our team commissioned a charming bespoke track from Out/Standard composer John Pickup to accentuate the cheeky bear’s escapades.
Matalan - Real Moment, Real Magic
This series of 30-second shorts by McCann Manchester celebrates the excitement of the festive period with three different stories directed by Max Fischer - a party with neighbours, a mother with her two children, and a night in with the girlfriends. Our team synced the classically adored 1974 track ‘Magic’ by Scottish group Pilot for them, an instantly recognisable fun-loving track that perfectly conjures the magic at the heart of the festive season.
Samsung - ‘Holiday opens up with Galaxy’
Teaming up once again with Wieden Kennedy Amsterdam, our team composed three bespoke tracks and delivered a sync for a fourth, for Samsung’s holiday season campaign. The spots focus on people using their products for creativity, and we worked closely with the Amsterdam agency to make sure each film pulls the viewer into the worlds and stories they create.
