Actor angrily explains how the Toastie Loaf is incomparable to other toasties in spot from Merman director Declan Lowney and Joyful & Triumphant

Warburtons has launched its latest instalment of the Warburtons series featuring the legendary Samuel L. Jackson as Jonathan Warburton in 'Mad About The Bread'.

Directed by Declan Lowney, on the back of his Emmy nomination for the final episode of Ted Lasso, Samuel L. Jackson angrily explains how the Toastie Loaf is incomparable to other toasties. We follow Jackson through the Warburton factory  testing for softness, butterability and bounceability.

Mad About The Bread is the latest addition to Warburtons’ line up of now-iconic storytelling adverts, which have previously featured A-List celebrities including George Clooney, Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone.

The campaign was a collaborative approach creatively developed by Billy Faithfull, Andy Lee and Jonny Porthouse with Freud Communications and Merman Branded. The ad leads with a 210-second director’s cut, along with 60-second and 30-second cut downs.

Director Declan Lowney says, “I’ve been lucky enough to have directed all 6 ads in the Warburtons Trilogy but MAD ABOUT THE BREAD takes the concept to a whole new level; the idea, the script, the gags - this one is a delight! After stellar performances from superstars George Clooney, De Niro, Peter Kay, Stallone and Kermit The Frog, Warburtons convinced Samuel L. Jackson, the angriest man in Hollywood, to play the nicest man in Baking. Buckle up for the ride!”

Producer Simon Monhemius says, “The Warburtons campaign is a joy to work on from a producer's point of view. This latest sixth outing was no exception - throughout the campaign, the way we have all worked together collaboratively as one team from the early conception of the idea means that director and production have a voice throughout. This allows us to focus all our energy into the idea, the humour and the final production values of the finished films.”

Samuel L. Jackson said, “It was a pleasure to meet the man at the helm of Britain’s biggest family bakery. And what an honour to follow in the footsteps of ‘Bolton alumni’, George Clooney and Robert DeNiro. We had a lot of fun on set so I hope people enjoy the finished product - the ad AND Toastie Loaf!"

Jonathan Warburton, chairman of Warburtons, said, “At Warburtons, we pride ourselves on the care that goes into making sure that every single loaf is as fresh and high quality as possible. Quality is truly at the heart of our 147-year-old business, and this new ad is a real celebration of that passion. Inviting the big-screen hero of Samuel L. Jackson into the business was a uniquely memorable experience, and we hope to bring some light-hearted humour to viewers at home – while reminding the nation that our Toastie truly offers our customers the best of the best.”

Billy Faithfull, executive creative director, Joyful & Triumphant, commented, “Spending time with the family talking about quality, you realise doing things properly is a family trait, bred (or baked?) into the current leadership. Take your baking seriously, but never yourselves said Jonathan’s father, Derek. So we figured the most unserious way to bring to life the Warburtons maxim was to cast Hollywood’s most serious monologist Samuel L. Jackson as Jonathan Warburton. We hope people will think twice before questioning the unique quality of a Warburtons Toastie Loaf, at least for the next generation or two."
