Grey Group has appointed one of China’s most accomplished creative leaders, Canon Wu, as chief digital creative officer for its China operations covering Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Based in Shanghai, the award-winning creative takes up her new role at Grey with immediate effect.
Prior to her appointment, Wu was most recently the Chief Creative at Can Create in McCann Erickson Worldwide, where she built a highly creative digital team to manage several of the world’s biggest brands such as Puma, L’Oreal Paris, Maybelline, Coca-Cola and General Motors. Her digital work for Puma was the fourth most recalled campaign across all categories that won a Gold award at ROI Festival in China, a Silver and a Bronze in the Asian Marketing Effectiveness Awards and AME Awards, New York, respectively. Under her stewardship, Can Create has won numerous awards: The Mobius Advertising Awards, Times International Chinese Advertising Awards, The Diamond Awards and China Effie Awards, to name a few.
The creative veteran also brings with her two decades of experience in traditional mediums. Her first notable success was as ECD of Oglivy Taiwan in 2001, when she set a Taiwanese record for “Most Gold Awards” for her brilliant work on Sony Ericsson. She held a stint as ECD at Bates Shanghai and Guangzhou managing Buick before moving on to Oglivy & Mather Shanghai, where she worked with distinction on clients such as Sprite, KFC and eBay China.
In addition to receiving regional and international accolades for her work, Canon is a well-recognized figure in the industry; acknowledged as one of the top 10 creative directors in China in 2004 and presented with the McCann Leadership Award in 2009.
