Eight new augmented reality animals available online taps into the close bond people feel to the iconic Aussie-natives

Australia is home to some of the most fascinating creatures in the animal kingdom: birds that laugh, duck-billed monotremes and marsupials that smile, hop and poop cubes. Now, for the first time, you can get up close with a koala, kangaroo, quokka, wombat, platypus, emu, kookaburra or echidna, through your mobile browser (Android or iOS) or in the Google App.

The launch film, shot entirely on mobile by influencers, YouTube creators and Aussie icons like Jenny Kee, taps into the close bond people feel to the iconic Aussie-native animals and captures the magic of being able to interact with them via augmented reality on Google.

Zoe Hayes, head of consumer software marketing, said: “We’ll all be exploring a bit more of our own backyard this summer. Fortunately the joy of being an Aussie is there is no place better than our countryside and the incredible native animals that live here with us. We’re chuffed to help Aussies get even closer to our unique fuzzy friends with this new launch and have team Emotive partner with us on it.”

The use of the music track 'Thank you for being a friend' by Andrew Gold raises a smile and provides a subtle reminder of just how lucky we are to be surrounded by these amazing animals.

Rupert Taylor, Emotive creative director, commented: “The animals are cool and kids love them, so we were pretty stoked to work on it.”

To meet the animals, simply search '[insert animal]' on your mobile browser (Android or iOS) or in the Google App and tap 'View in 3D' on your mobile or tablet.
