In the words of John Denver ‘my bags are packed and I’m ready to go…’ I love to fly, but I hate to leave the ones I love behind. NYC has not let me down. Yet again, I’ve had an amazing trip.
So, am I about to attempt to round up the two and a half weeks I’ve had here? I don’t think I can. I know I’ve achieved everything I hoped and I’m happily exhausted, with a stack of business cards, many interviews to type up, some good memories, odd tan marks on my back and I’m not even going to dare to look at my bank balance. This week was just as good as the rest of my trip.
Tuesday night I attended the Clios, hosted by Joan Rivers who was, as expected, very funny (although many of her jokes did confuse some of our Dutch party!). Ogilvy & Mather won network of the year, VW won advertiser of the year, the most influential man in Indian advertising, Piyush Pandey was given a lifetime achievement, BBDO was named agency of the year, Annie Leibovitz and Anthony Bourdain were given honourary Clios and Smuggler was named production company of the year. Intel’s ‘Museum of Memory’ (http://bit.ly/Kg6A9P
) won for Projector, Japan. Leo Burnett’s ‘Save the Troy Library’ (http://bit.ly/v3iHnT
) won the Facebook integrated media special recognition award (yes, that is its title). We had to sit through and watch Honda’s ‘GRRR’ (http://bit.ly/8G9SDZ
) as it was entered into the Hall of Fame… Do you remember 2004 and how many times they played it at the Cannes award shows? Delightfully, but possibly annoyingly to the man next to me, I discovered I still know all the words. Memac Ogilvy Label, Tunisia won the grand Clio in innovative media for their amazing work ‘Ben Ali’s Return La Goulette’ (http://bit.ly/zt5Vuy
) and Chipotle’s ‘Back to the Start’ won Grand Film clip for agency Creative Arts.
In fact, Tuesday was a pretty amazing day. I was kindly invited by Deutsch NYC to attend a conversation with photographer Danny Clinch. He was as inspiring as his work, a great artist and a wonderful storyteller. You can watch his presentation by visiting this link (http://bit.ly/IYS9ZD
) and yes, the silly British girl enthusiastically asking questions is… yours truly!
Looking forward to seeing London again and I suppose it is time to get ready for Cannes. I’ll be booking up meetings over the next few weeks and am keen to meet as many of the industry folk who are visiting France from far and wide. Get in touch and we can pop something in the diary. And be sure to come and visit us down at La Plage Courage http://bit.ly/Kg3Pao
Cheerio to NYC, you’ve been amazing; thank you to everyone who met with me.
