Freesat, the UK’s free satellite TV service, this week launches a new advertising campaign to promote the benefits of its smart new TV guide <free time> to satellite homes. <free time> brings new features to Freesat including a backward guide that lets viewers ‘turn back time’ to watch programmes that have already been on, a new Showcase section providing TV recommendations and enhanced on demand and recordings.
The campaign, under the strapline ‘Satellite TV so good you won’t believe it’s free’ comprises two TV commercials which launch on Friday 26rd October. The TV campaign is supported by interactive digital advertising, press, experiential marketing across retail and social media. Freesat will also be launching a new online social community for customers.
Both commercials are introduced by new tongue-in-cheek characters, who help illustrate key benefits of <free time> and reinforce Freesat’s position as a high quality yet free alternative for satellite homes. Both commercials can be viewed below:

By showcasing our new guide we wanted to challenge the assumption amongst some pay TV customers that choosing a free TV service means compromising on a brilliant TV experience.”
This is the third TV campaign created for Freesat by VCCP, who has handled the Freesat account for over two years. The TV commercial was directed by Tom Tagholm whose credits include the celebrated “Meet The Superhumans”, Channel Four’s Paralympic Games campaign. Media planning and buying is by MPG.
