Canadian award recognises Framestore's HR and support and training for staff
Multi-Oscar-winning creative studio Framestore was the proud recipient of the Best International Talent Attraction and Retention Strategy Award at this year’s Montreal International Awards.

The event recognises companies that are leading the way in terms of export, attracting overseas talent and otherwise contributing to Montreal’s economy. The event, held at the Palais des Congres, attracted over 600 members of the region’s business community. Framestore Head of HR Veronique Hébert and Head of Recruitment Benoit Debaecker were in attendance to accept the reward on behalf of Framestore.

Of the win, Managing Director Chloë Grysole says, “This is a tremendous achievement, and shines a light on the hard work of our HR and recruitment teams. VFX is a highly-competitive global industry, and Framestore’s success stems from being able to attract and retain the very best talent. Framestore was the first major VFX studio to make Montreal its home, and of our 700+ staff half of them hail from different countries. Bringing together so many people to create Oscar-winning work is no mean feat, and it’s a testament to our city, our managers and the support we give artists and their families that, once they settle here, they usually choose to stay.”

One of the keys to the company’s success is Framestore's Connect initiative, which helps artists and families actively integrate into the rich and diverse city. Now in its third year, the scheme offers a range of activities, from job markets for partners, French and English classes and social activities and outings through to practical advice on housing and healthcare.

Framestore also prides itself on training and education for its staff, and has invested in a new, state-of-the-art training room, as well as training on new software, hardware and the art of film-making. “It’s really gratifying to be part of an influential VFX community in my hometown,” adds Grysole. “The level of work we do here is world class and it's crucial to continue to invest in training - both for Framestore and for the city’s wider creative infrastructure.”

Launching in 2013 with a core staff of 20, Framestore’s studio now boasts over 700 employees. Recent film, TV and immersive work featuring Framestore’s creativity, artistry and technical expertise include Amazon Studios’ The Aeronauts, HBO/BBC’s His Dark Materials and the Emmy-nominated ‘Beyond the Wall’ VR experience for Game of Thrones. A selection of films currently in production include Mulan (Disney), Tom and Jerry (Warner Bros.) as well as Army of the Dead (Netflix).

The Montréal International Awards are part of the second edition of the internationalization initiative co-developed by the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal, Montréal International and Investissement Québec, in collaboration with Air Canada and RBC Royal Bank.

The Montreal International Awards were announced on Friday, January 31st
