Framestore's work on Spike Jonze’s ‘Welcome Home’ commercial for Apple has received global recognition, winning the Visual Effects Society (VES) Award for Outstanding Compositing in a Photoreal Commercial.
The award was presented to Framestore’s LA-based Michael Ralla, Steve Drew, Alejandro Villabon and Peter Timberlake. The team worked on the four-minute film for Apple, which shows British musician FKA twigs distorting the laws of physics as her environment comes alive around her. The ad has previously won numerous awards, including the Grand Prix at Cannes Lions.
The 17th annual VES Awards also celebrated Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War, which featured Framestore’s work for the dramatic opening sequence. The film was honoured with the award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature.
Says William Sargent, CEO: "It is a delight to celebrate our work at the prestigious Visual Effects Society awards. Having Framestore's work acknowledged by our peers encourages us to continue to look to the future; using cutting-edge technology to create the most extraordinary images possible."
The announcement follows news that two films featuring Framestore work have been nominated for the BAFTA award in Special Visual Effects; Avengers: Infinity War and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Framestore’s work in visual effects has also been recognised in the 91st Academy Awards, gaining an Academy-Award nomination in visual effects for Christopher Robin, alongside Avengers: Infinity War.
