RSA Animation directors Hi Sim like to keep their studio busy. In between their demanding commercial schedules – they use each in-house project as an opportunity to develop and explore new techniques and themes. Flux is one of these projects.
Set in a dramatic location – the wide open desert planes
are adorned with futuristic structures and beings. A group
of hi-spec machines enter an adrenalin fuelled ball game
The characters were originally designed for a commercial short film idea but they decided to make an entirely new promo consisting of themes that they are passionate about: Sci-fi, design, robots and football!
Inspired by popular sci-fi imagery, the idea was to expand on that and create their own interpretation and visual language.
“We were influenced by aspects of Japanese culture and their obsession with technology, observed in classic films such as Gundam and Appleseed. We wanted to step away from the generic white robot and design characters that have a sense of personality, so we explored the idea of body adornments, tattoos and graphics which showed a sense
of personal ownership and style.”
Flux is their first stereoscopic film.
