Doomsday Entertainment's director Ben Dean delivers a family from outer chaos and inner turmoil in a humorous spot

Production company Doomsday Entertainment and director Ben Dean count the seconds to salvation in a comedic continuation of Expedia’s latest emotionally riveting campaign, with the 30-second ad “Chaos”.

He previously helmed “Flipper’s Skate Heist”, a branded short film where legendary rapper/producer/entrepreneur Dr. Dre and Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine together announced the limited edition “The Chronic” skate, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the studio album of the same name. The short went on to screen at Tribeca X, snagged a Bronze Clio in Film Craft - Direction, and earned a Cannes Lions shortlist nod.

“Chaos” follows the success of the brand’s lauded “Two Step” ad and Expedia’s latest “Northern Lights” spots--both produced by Doomsday and directed by award-winning director Hiro Murai (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”, “The Bear”.) “Chaos” sees a large family overwhelmed in 4K and slow-mo by their dramatised daily life. The director stretches the agonising seconds between each family member’s overloaded existence and the saving grace of Expedia’s flight tracking notification. After the notification, the swift cut to paradise produces no family drama at all.

Hiro’s U.S. and Japan-airing ad “Two Step” launched Expedia Group’s partnership with Netflix as the platform’s first global advertising partner to activate a multi-market campaign on its ad-supported plan throughout 2024. The ad was delivered on Netflix via 50, 30, and 60-second anthemic spots, featuring Expedia’s package price tracking tools.

An Australian director and creative director based in Los Angeles, Ben Dean made his name in the short film, music video, and advertising space working with top culture brands including Nike, Nas, Future Classics, Converse, Masterclass, YouTube, Sonos, K-Swiss, and many more. His short “KITT”--about the world-renowned large-scale ground muralist of the same name--and his directed Keli Holiday music video “We Don't Have To Know” both earned Vimeo Staff Pick status and other accolades.
