Final Pixel Academy completes two week virtual production training to Solent University’s creative technologists, academic lecturers and students

Final Pixel Academy, the virtual production training and education division of Final Pixel, today announced it has completed a two-week Virtual Production Training curriculum, in partnership with CJP Broadcast Service Solutions, for Solent University in Southampton, UK. To deliver this highly successful Virtual Production training, Final Pixel Academy partnered with CJP Broadcast Service Solutions who designed and built the LED volume specifically for Solent University.

The Solent University 10-day 'Train the Trainers' workshop was a demonstration of the ambitious collaboration between Final Pixel Academy and CJP. The partners worked seamlessly to successfully provide full virtual production technical capabilities entirely from scratch, and design end-to-end virtual production workflows that provide for a better understanding and alignment with industry best practices, preparing students and faculty for the future of creative, immersive content creation, filmmaking, and creative storytelling.

CJP Broadcast Service Solutions is the only major player in systems integration and virtual production accredited to NWUPC, recognising their proven skills, knowledge, and experience. A growing number of universities, including Solent University, are investing in professional-grade virtual production facilities, recognising their value in a media studies degree, as well as across faculties, encouraging a diverse group of people to discover how virtual production will help their future careers.

“Virtual production is a new environment with enormous creative potential,” said Kieran Phillips, director of sales, and marketing at CJP. “Everything about it is still evolving, and today’s generation of media students will have a huge role to play in setting the future agenda. That is why it is vital that they are provided with a professional level technical platform, as we have implemented at Solent and other universities, together with stimulating and informed tutoring and mentoring, which Final Pixel Academy is driving forward.”

Final Pixel Academy: Training the Trainers

The Final Pixel Academy and CJP teams travelled to Solent University for two weeks to deliver a bespoke virtual training curriculum - led by technical artist and trainer Hannah Winn and Virtual Production Technical Director, James Codling - to Solent’s creative technologists, academic lecturers, and students, on their exciting brand-new LED volume and stage, designed and built by CJP Broadcast Service Solutions.

“Our aim for Solent University was to bring an understanding of the convergence of core technologies that make real-time ICVFX workflows easier to understand, and where creative applications can open the doors to further experimentation, innovation and R&D,” said Dr. Jodi Nelson-Tabor, head of Final Pixel Academy. “Actionable learning aims, closing skills gaps and capacity building are the pillars of our training to better prepare current and future students to be job ready in an ever-changing marketplace.”

As a result of this extensive training program, with a focus on 'Training the Trainers' is enabling wider application of virtual production knowledge, and practice-led activities to ensure robust virtual production engagements are part of the production toolbox.
