The New York office of FCB has brought on award-winning creative, Laura Wimer, as Executive Creative Director. She joins the agency off a 5-year run at Mekanism San Francisco, most recently as ECD.

Laura will serve as creative lead on Lincoln Financial Group and GSK’s smoker health business initially and will also play an active role in helping to drive new business for the agency, which has been on quite a tear the past 12 months—seeing a 46% jump in revenue due to organic growth and new wins from Spotify, Mike’s Hard Lemonade (Global), Clinique, Florida Blue and Axe.

Laura is the latest to take on an executive creative role, following the appointment of ECD Samira Ansari last April. The agency has welcomed 68 new employees since the start of 2020, half of which are in a creative discipline. She will report to FCB NY CO-CCOs Gabriel Schmitt and Michael Aimette.

“Being people-first, motivated by curiosity, and revealing truth about the human experience inspire me to find ways to become a better creative leader every day,” said Wimer. “These qualities are abundantly present in the FCB NY leadership team and I can’t wait to dive in and grow with them.”

Laura’s notable tenure at Mekanism includes award-winning work for Alaska Airlines, Method Home, Frida Mom, and Everlane and accolades from the EFFIES, Webby’s, and Adweek (Creative 100). She also played a large role in building out the agency’s Seattle office, and this year led the creative team responsible for the Frida Mom campaign that shared a realistic look at breastfeeding and was the first to show a lactating mother on television.

Laura got her start in entertainment and video game advertising, helping Call of Duty: Black Ops exceed $1 billion in worldwide sales in its first six weeks. She went on to freelance for Dollar Shave Club as creative director, helping to design its brand identity for launch while targeting the VC community. Next, she joined LA-based Standard Black, where she spent over 3 years working across its CVS Health and Stila Cosmetics accounts. She serves as a juror for the One Show, the Webby Awards, and the Cresta Awards.

“Laura is the perfect example of someone that uses creativity as an economic multiplier. She’s a whip smart leader, with a strong business mind and great creative chops--a true Swiss Army knife of experience and talents,” remarked Schmitt and Aimette. “We are super excited to see her applying her entrepreneurial background to our brands at FCB NY.”
