An EMT fights the coronavirus pandemic from the front lines and comes to the realisation that essential was just another way of saying sacrificial in 'Thrown to the Wolves', the latest short film from The Hudson Dusters, filmmaker duo and native New Yorkers Michael Kuhn and Niles Roth. The film premiered yesterday on Vimeo as a Staff Pick.
At the age of 19, Renard 'Storm' Haynes began his career as an EMT. After rescuing a drowning child at the beach, he felt the power of being able to help others, and at that moment he knew that he had found his calling. He was here to be a helper. In 'Thrown to the Wolves', we follow Storm in Spring of 2020, when he finds himself on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic in NYC, waging war against the virus under incredibly dangerous conditions. His story is one of a helper tasked with fighting the invisible impossible, putting his life on the line every time he takes on a patient.
The Hudson Dusters shot the film in December 2020, during the height of the pandemic. But at that time, the team at Greenpoint had fully adapted to working under Covid rules and regulations and were able to efficiently keep the crew safe while filming.
“As the country begins the process of a cautious reopening, we wanted to share this as a tribute to the frontline workers that have endured the brunt of the pandemic,” says The Hudson Dusters. “During the pandemic, frontline workers were being heralded as heroes and too often their individual stories didn’t get told. This film focuses on the personal experience of a single EMT, who rarely gets the spotlight, a true helper who was “Thrown to the Wolves.”view more - Creative
