Little Minx director Child helms the powerful anthem against social injustice and voter suppression
Directed by Little Minx’s Child comes Janelle Monae’s latest music video, 'Turntables' - an empowering anthem against social injustice and voter suppression with a message of positive change that 'the table bout’ to turn'.
The Emotion Picture spotlights the history of racial inequality in the US, interlacing footage of Black leaders and activists throughout history, including footage of this year’s Black Lives Matter marches, with scenes of Monae performing in front of an American flag and USPS boxes.
Monae wrote the invigorating song for the upcoming documentary 'All In: The Fight for Democracy', which focuses on battling systemic voter suppression, streaming on Amazon from 18th September.
In describing the film, Child quoted the words of Nina Simone: "An artist's duty, as far as I'm concerned, is to reflect the times. I think that is true of painters, sculptors, poets, musicians. As far as I'm concerned, it's their choice, but I CHOOSE to reflect the times and situations in which I find myself. That, to me, is my duty.”
