Simon French (Frenchie) of Electric Theatre Collective fame has been promoted to head of VFX. In a role that is new to the ETC setup, this position will place Simon between creative and technical, working closely with the other creative heads of department. Simon will be a linchpin between the VFX teams and pipeline/R&D, acting as an ambassador for the artists and ensuring that Electric remains progressive and futureproof. Simon will also still be taking the creative helm on projects, as if there are enough hours in the day.
ETC’s MD Jon Purton commented: “It’s a new role at ETC and Simon’s ability to see the wood for the trees is invaluable to us. He has a strategic and creative brain, and as the company continues to take on even more challenging and interesting work, Simon is going to help us stay ahead of the curve”.
Simon joined Electric Theatre in 2017 as the joint head of CG, previously head of CG/creative director at Framestore Advertising. His long list of accolades include VES nominations, D&AD wins, Kinsale Sharks, Ciclopes and Cannes Lions. His credits bear the titles of timeless classics such as Galaxy - Chauffeur, Black Mirror - Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too, Chemical Brothers - The Salmon Dance, Shelter - House of Cards, the Spectre title sequence, and the list goes on. For someone who looks so fresh faced, he’s been about.
Simon said of his promotion: “I am excited to take this next step with ETC, bringing together the incredibly talented VFX teams to keep Electric at the forefront of creative output and industry leading tools and technology. Together with the other creative HODs, we are building an incredibly collaborative VFX power house able to take on the best and most challenging work out there”.
