A vivid imagination. An insightful observer of human nature. School welcomes Monica Remba. Editor. Storyteller.
Armed with a perfect balance of imagination, whimsy and technical knowledge Monica has developed a unique editorial style. Known for her keen eye and impeccable sense of timing, Monica has produced breath taking and award-winning work recognised by many award shows including Cannes, The Clios and AICP (Formerly AICE).
A junior producer internship at FCB provided Monica’s first opportunity to immerse herself in the world of advertising. With a solid understanding of agency life and the encouragement of the FCB broadcast department, Monica seized the opportunity to pursue her interest in editing. Working her way up from assistant to editor, Monica’s combination of natural talent and sheer hard work resulted in her developing strong connections with incredibly talented directors and equally talented creative teams. Many have become lifelong friends.
Monica recently collaborated with Steam director Goh Iromoto and Momentum to create a beautiful piece for HBC that reflected on this truly unprecedented past year.
A senior editor since 2012, Monica has helped craft many memorable advertising campaigns. Her latest work with Alex Hulsey of Merchant films for Canada Life and Taxi shows Monica’s sense of storytelling and pacing.
“I love visual pieces with loose scripts” says Monica. “I can get lost in the footage and different possibilities.”
Mark’s 'Well Worn', directed by Asymetric’s Kacper Larski for Taxi is another example of Monica finding the magic in the visuals and the rhythm of the story.
“People underestimate how difficult it is to tell a story in sixty seconds or less. The magic happens during the selection and collaboration process and Monica has those skills down to a fine art.” says School Executive Producer Sarah Brooks. “We’re beyond excited to have someone with such innate talent joining our School family”
In addition to her exceptional editorial skills, Monica is part of a team of creative people developing a network for women in the advertising community hoping to foster mentorship and career opportunities for young female creatives.
Long-time supporter Steph Walker-Wells of Rethink describes Monica as “Passionate, collaborative, talented, and blessed with an innate ability to bring that perfect moment and emotion to life in a cut, Monica is truly a star in her field. We’re excited to see the next chapter in her career unfold and look forward to seeing more amazing work from her in the near future.”
Not limiting herself to the commercial world, Monica recently worked with director Melanie Chung and writer/showrunner Nathalie Younglai on the new CBC Gem series “Hello (Again)” created by Simu Liu & Nathalie Younglai. The series is led by a cast and crew of BIPOC talent and is currently in post-production.
With a rich array of editorial disciplines, Monica knows a well-timed pause or a flourish of images with just the right cadence can make one stop, think, laugh, cry or in the case of advertising, buy.
