Avenues opens new Dalston studio

Immersed within the heart of Dalston sits the independent and creative-led edit house, Avenues. Having relocated from their initial spot on Arcola Street, where they resided for three years, they are now proud to introduce their 4000 sq ft studio on Shacklewell Lane. With an updated roster of diverse talent, they collaborate with artists and brands worldwide; across fashion, beauty, music, commercial and documentary.

Avenues is dedicated to forging lasting relationships with their partners, producing high-end work, with the next generation of editors and creatives. The new space enables their continued growth and is the ideal base from which their team champions the craft of editing - a team which has impressively tripled in size to 15 over the past year.

The new roster includes Amy Dang, Yago Hunt-Laudi, Pawel Achtelik and Marnie Hollande, talented editors who together bring a complimentary set of clients and diverse styles, forming the backbone of Avenues.

Avenues Studio director & senior editor, Thomas Goldser, said of the new launch, “Experiencing the evolution of Avenues, from me and an iMac on Arcola street, to where we are today in just a few short years has been a crazy experience. I want to partner with the best in the business, to create work which resonates throughout our culture, in an environment which is professional, fun and inclusive. I’m so proud of what we do, and beyond excited for what comes next.”

Clients and projects delivered to date include...

Working with a mix of agencies, production companies, freelance creatives and directly with the brands themselves, their extensive list of clients includes: Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Jacquemus, Calvin Klein, DeBeers, Miu Miu, Givenchy, Dior, Hugo Boss, Palace, Vogue, Perfect Magazine, Audi, Volvo, Squarespace, Apple, Google, Nike, Adidas, Coca Cola, Meta, Beats, as well as recording artists such as Ashnikko, Kelela, ShyGirl, Hot Chip, Young Thug & Drake, Jamie XX and Hak Baker, as well as documentaries for the likes of The Guardian, Channel 4, and BBC, to name but a few.

Yago Hunt Laudi the most recent editor to join the Avenues roster, commented, “I was drawn to Avenues for its energetic atmosphere and progressive approach. In the realm of post-production, it’s easy for the process and the people behind it to be overlooked. Avenues stands out in this regard. The workspace is well-designed, providing a bright and spacious environment that enhances creativity. What truly sets Avenues apart, though, is the sense of camaraderie and cooperation among the team. It's a place where collaboration is encouraged and everyone is at ease with one another. This approach aligns with my professional values and makes Avenues not just a workplace, but a community where creativity is nurtured. I'm excited to be a part of it.”

Their new location...

Walking into the 3rd floor offices, you are immediately struck by the abundance of space and natural light, with panoramic views from the Olympic stadium to the BT tower. The Victorian era textile factory now contains a generous open-plan kitchen, dining and meeting area, dressed in warm pinks and hand cut marble. As you move through the connecting corridor you see large meeting rooms, production offices, and an edit assist bay in a welcoming open-plan aesthetic which encourages a collaborative work environment.

The freshly built studio interior is equipped with six edit suites and two colour suites. Technologically designed from the ground up, the space is connected by a high speed server which allows for flexible working setups, remote edit and secure collaboration worldwide.

Decorated in a mix of modern and mid-century interior design, clean whites are contrasted with splashes of colour and varied materiality, with furnishings sourced from both independent and renowned designers. The move signals the next chapter for Avenues; a studio with personality, comfortably adept to host a range of creatives, clients, and events, as well as providing a calm and inspiring home for their progressive lineup of editors, assistants, freelancers and support staff.

Editor Amy Dang said of working at Avenues:

Q> Tell me about being part of the AVENUES Studio team?

Amy> Something very special to me about Avenues is that it feels organic. It’s a space that feels like it’s evolving naturally, growing and flexing to meet the needs of people that inhabit it - the space is curated with a lot of care. I love the assemblage of diverse characters, cultures (and species) in the studio, which brings an eccentric energy to the environment. It’s a joy to be working alongside a team this talented, so passionate about what they do, but also so warm and fun to be around. I’m very excited to see what 2024 holds.

Q> What do you think of the new studio?

Amy> The new studio is a beautifully curated space. It’s spacious and bright. And there’s a sense of ease in the air. Personally I've always enjoyed that it feels quiet and hidden, despite being in the heart of busy Dalston.

Q> What is your favourite recent piece of work?

Amy> Nike Dance is a recent piece of work I’m really happy with. But I also want to give a shout out to Chanel MCR for the rock n roll spirit of the team!

With offices in what is still one of the most deprived boroughs in the country, Avenues actively contribute to removing barriers traditionally associated with entering the industry. In addition to offering guidance and providing access to the suites for up-and-coming editors and colourists, the team is also currently working with Hackney Council and other local organisations to implement internships and real opportunity for the East London community.

Callum Johnstone, operations director said, “It’s incredibly important to us that we start to give back to the community which we call home. There’s so much talent on our doorstep that never gets a look in. We’d like to take some steps to address the bias at the heart of our industry, by offering meaningful, paid opportunities.”

What new rostered editor, Pawel Achtelik, said of joining Avenues, “It feels like an exciting time to be joining the Avenues' roster with the launch of the new studio. A chance to be part of a truly creative team in a dynamic environment. I look forward to working on a varied mix of projects and having access to the premium facilities that Avenues has to offer. Working alongside the talented editors here is a huge inspiration”.

The eclectic energy of Dalston adds a further dimension to the studio and life outside it. Unique food spots are within easy reach, from Turkish legends Mangal 1 and Somine, to newer locals Jolene, Oren and Cadet.Musically you’re well catered - Gillet Square houses the mighty NTS Radio HQ, as well as the highly respected Servant Jazz Quarters and Vortex Jazz Bar. Record collectors favourite Eldica sits just behind, if you fancy a dig, and Earth provides the setting for performances from huge artists - queues regularly heading riiiiggggght round the block. Ridley Road Market, the RIO; a grade II listed, independent arthouse cinema from 1909, and of course a healthy choice of places to grab a cocktail or a pint complete the picture. This is an area which stubbornly refuses gentrification, whilst opening its arms to all who come.

Avenues Studio executive producer Adam Reid said, “We are committed to working closely with our clients in a flexible way to help heighten the creative level across all we do. But we are also dedicated to fostering a truly authentic, inclusive culture here. Building a space in which everyone feels happy and relaxed to create their best work feels good. We’re excited to open our doors to welcome a mix of new and existing clients to our Shacklewell space”.

Avenues launches the new studio in line with a brand redesign and new website housing all their latest work.

Avenues encourages anybody interested in the space, their work, or becoming a member of the team to come and pay a visit to the studio.

Avenues will host a launch party on Thursday 21st March to celebrate the website launch. If you are interested to join, please RSVP directly to: events@avenues.studio.
