Work editor Peter Brandt teamed up again with Martin de Thurah of Epoch Films on Nordstrom's latest brand campaign 'An Open Mind Is The Best Look' from Droga5 New York.
Championing individuality and human expression, some of its spirit very much rubbed off on the edit process, according to Peter: "Initially we were almost paralysed by how much good material there was. More and more rushes came in, 8mm, VHS, casting tapes… you name it. Finding the structure and how to tell an abstract story then became the challenge and although not originally scripted, it was the performance coach's ad lib that became the spine of the film and really pulled it together. Martin and the creatives gave me the freedom to play with it, to almost tear the script apart and gravitate instinctively to certain pieces, focusing on the feeling of a shot rather than any specific narrative. My real problem, if you can call it that, was what to lose when we had such great rushes and how the heck to get it down to 1 or 2 minutes."
