Environmentalist John and Droga5 will host the summit for businesses and activists to discuss a green recovery

Creative advertising agency, Droga5 London - part of Accenture Interactive - and John Grant, author of The Green Marketing Manifesto, have teamed up to host a series of virtual events on the topic of The Green Pivot: Fostering a Green Recovery.

Taking place on Thursday 23rd July, from 14:30 BST / 09:30 EST onwards, each of the three Green Pivot panel discussions will last 45 minutes and feature contributions from a broad range of experts.

The half-day event coincides with the launch of the best-selling author’s new book, Greener Marketing. As an exercise in co-creation, the conversations generated on each panel will form the basis of the book’s final chapter, as the panellists come together to ask how brands can prepare for a 'green pivot'. Live audience attendance is free with limited spaces and will also be recorded for a podcast.

Across the afternoon, the experts will explore how to plot a path to green recovery, with creative ideas that have revived companies and launched new businesses.

The first Green Pivot discussion is on the topic of reinvention and will be chaired by John Grant. Reinvention can be a step change or a complete rethink that turns a product, service, or even a sector, on its head. It looks at how brands can reinvent their businesses with renewed purpose that remains profitable. On this panel will be: Michelle Allen, GSK’s consumer and customer portfolio sustainability lead; Kresse Wesling, co-founder, Elvis & Kresse; Jason Gonsalves, brand director, The Face; Tamsin Omond of Extinction Rebellion and Charles Armstrong, founder and CEO, The Trampery.

The second Green Pivot panel is about collaboration. A green recovery depends on the many, not the few, and on a shift in thinking that embraces others; sometimes even competitors. This discussion will explore what brands can learn from surprising collaborations that make business sense whilst also supporting a bigger cause. Chair Claire Beale, former global editor of Campaign Magazine, will be joined by: Malcolm Fried, CMO, Investec; Mark Adams, SVP, head of innovation, VICE; Gail Gaille, co-founder, Project Everyone and Jamie Mitchell, founder, non-executive chairman and advisor, All Together.

Finally, ‘pushing standards’ is the topic of the third Green Pivot discussion, looking at the brands and organisations leading the way by raising standards in their respective sectors. It asks what brands can learn from the breakthrough ideas and strategies that are making change a reality. Chaired by Sonoo Singh, media consultant and associate editor at The Drum, panellists are: Javier Meza, global chief marketing officer, Sparkling, The CocaCola Company; Rachel Konrad, CEO and founder, Impossible Foods Inc; Russell Davies, CMO, Bulb, Nathalie Green, co-founder and CEO, Doconomy and Dawda Jobarteh, global head of the SDG Strategy Hub, United Nations.

Dylan Williams chief strategic officer, Droga5 London said: "While our instincts during this pandemic are to focus on the immediate challenge of saving lives and livelihoods, to do so exclusively would be remiss. Our collective appetite for significant change, and ability to achieve it, has never been more evident. We must harness this moment to herald a new age where the power of commerce positively impacts the planet we all share. To improve life today in a way that ensures life tomorrow. This conference, and John's fantastic book, are contributions to that cause."

With the issues of climate change, human extinction, and the actions of brands and businesses more important than ever, we hope you can join and help to share stories and learnings.
