After a day of confusing their fans by flooding Instagram with pictures of David Beckham, British rock band Don Broco have today released their brand new single Manchester Super Reds No. 1 Fan. Alongside the release is a weird and wonderful music video directed by Sticker Studios’ quirky directing duo, Do Not Entry.
The video is set on a makeshift spaceship and features a David Beckham lookalike who the band, dressed in Star Trek style uniforms, have seemingly cloned from Beckham’s DNA.
"We’ve had a long obsession with hireable celebrity lookalikes for a while now, and have been desperately awaiting a project to have an excuse to get some involved,” says Oli and Frank of Do Not Entry. “Then along came Don Broco, asking for a sci-fi themed football video, screaming ‘Manchester super reds’ at the top of their lungs in the lyrics. Naturally, David Beckham popped into our heads, and from there, cloning, laser battles and cute baby dinosaurs followed.”
When discussing the making of the video, Do Not Entry said: “We built a narrative around a few set-pieces in the video we knew had to be filmed (if we didn’t do it, then who would?) - a David Beckham bursting out of a cloning chamber and screaming, a Beckham clone holding the decapitated head of another Beckham, a Beckham doing some sweet cosmic space kick ups. It was great working with the band who were a super enthusiastic and creative bunch - they encouraged us to get real weird with the idea. And so, this chaotic music vid was born.”
